The Bermuda Championship debuted on Tour in late 2019 as part of the 2019-2020 season. The event was originally designated as an alternate event, opposite the WGC-HSBC Champions. However, because of successive cancellations of the WGC-HSBC Champions due to COVID, the tournament was elevated to full FedEx Cup points event status.

The tournament is played at the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton Parish, Bermuda. As a full-field tournament offering full FedEx Cup points, the winner will also receive an invitation to the Masters.

Port Royal Golf Course Bermuda: Where Beauty Meets Challenge

Location and Setting:

Situated in the heart of Bermuda, Port Royal Golf Course is a golfing gem designed by Robert Trent Jones. The 6,828 yard Par-71 layout boasts breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and challenges players with a blend of coastal winds and undulating fairways.

Architectural Brilliance:

Robert Trent Jones’ design philosophy is evident in every inch of Port Royal. Strategic bunkering, coastal hazards, and elevation changes make each hole a strategic puzzle for players to solve. The signature holes, including the famous 16th with its ocean backdrop, showcase the seamless integration of beauty and challenge.

Course Conditions:

The Bermuda grass greens and fairways of Port Royal are impeccably maintained, offering a true test of a golfer’s skills. The coastal winds add an unpredictable element, requiring players to factor in not just the yardage but also the atmospheric conditions.

If the wind gets up it will suit the more patient, experienced players. Key this week will be course management and an ability to move the ball both ways if the wind gets up. With such a diverse terrain, missing fairways around Port Royal can be costly.

Greens in regulation is key, a task made more difficult if the wind becomes a factor. The average winning score is -18 so a fast start is important.
